Six Sigma Champion Training

Six Sigma Champion Training

This course and workshop are intended to set up Six Sigma Project Champions for success in selecting, chartering, leading and supporting Six Sigma Black Belts and DMAIC projects. Attendees should bring project ideas and be prepared to write charters for them.

A note on the importance of the Six Sigma Champion: Six Sigma is a methodology for strategic enterprise improvement. It involves projects that typically run from four to six months and involve teams of process experts.

For this reason, it commands a long-term commitment from all employees, including all levels of management. The number one reason that Six Sigma fails, or falls short of expectations is "lack of sponsorship and commitment from senior leaders."

One unique and vital role in Six Sigma is that of the Project Champion. Typically, champions are upper-level managers who are responsible to the executive sponsors for the success of the projects. They should, therefore, be at a high enough level to remove potential obstacles, and have some stake in the projects they champion. They provide primary support as they approve selection of projects, closely monitor progress, conduct a formal review at the completion of each phase and approve resource allocation. Knowledge of the methodology and toolset is important for the champions.

Therefore, training and preparation for Six Sigma Champions is crucial, and will greatly improve the chances for success in your company-wide Six Sigma effort.
